Murine Safety Study Shows No Adverse Effects from ActivePure Technology

The Study

In a 90-day study published in PLOS ONE, researchers assessed the impact of Advanced Photohydrolysis technology on mice using the same concentration of the technology that is effective against viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens. 12 mice were divided equally into a test group and a control group. Both groups were housed in separate yet identical enclosures to isolate the effects of the technology. The enclosure for the test group contained the Aerus Pure & Clean (also sold as the ActivePure Surface & Air Guardian), while the control group enclosure did not.

Trained veterinary staff monitored the mice for a wide range of health indicators such as food intake, weight progression, and behavior. At study completion, a thorough histopathology analysis of nasal, larynx, and lung tissues, as well as a blood chemistry examination, was conducted to identify any potential microscopic damage or abnormalities. The study was peer-reviewed and published in PLOS ONE.

Key Findings

  • General Health & Behavior: The exposed mice exhibited no changes in food intake or behavior compared to unexposed control groups. No signs of stress or adverse effects were observed.
  • Body Weight Trends: Weekly weigh-ins demonstrated steady, normal growth across all groups, with no significant variances between those exposed to the technology and controls.
  • Bloodwork Consistency: Bloodwork was nearly identical between both groups. The only noticeable variation was in the levels of creatine kinase. However, statistical analysis revealed that this difference was not statistically significant.
  • Tissue Integrity: Examinations of the mice’s nasal passages, larynx, and lungs found no signs of inflammation, erosion, luminal debris, edema, or cellular proliferation. The upper and lower respiratory tissues of the exposed mice were clinically indistinguishable from those of the controls.

Trust Built on Proof

In addition to the FDA Class II 510k Safety Clearance, this evidence emphasizes ActivePure’s ability to provide continuous air and surface disinfection without compromising the safety of occupants — a critical outcome to help address current air quality challenges. ActivePure is a novel solution that has universal impacts from healthcare settings prioritizing pathogen reduction to residential homes and commercial buildings looking to improve indoor air quality. A safe and effective solution is now proven possible.
